How to Properly Apply Retinoids for Acne Treatment with Dr. Ife Rodney

Topical Retinoids ETERNAL DERMATOLOGY
Dr. Ife Rodney from Eternal Dermatology explains proper retinoid application to minimize irritation and maximize results. Learn the pea-sized technique, tips for dryness, and why patience is key to achieving clearer skin in just six weeks.

hi Dr Rodney here at Eternal Dermatology at our acne treatment center we treat a wide variety of acne cases from the mildest disease to the most severe cases one of our most frequently prescribed medications are what we call topical retinoids which are vitamin A derivatives that change the way the skin cells develop from the inside people may not truly understand how to properly apply the retinoids if you apply too much to your entire face or you use it too frequently you can have dryness and irritation and redness of your skin so today I’m going to briefly demonstrate how to apply your retinoid you want to use just a p sized amount which is this much to your entire face you put it on one finger dab it around to evenly distribute and then rub it in with two fingers in the first two weeks you may notice that it appears to not be working or you may even get a few more pimples don’t stop that’s how it works it brings them from the inside out and then in about 6 weeks you should see a significant Improvement when you apply the retinoid at night even if your skin feels dry and irritated I recommend not using any moisturizer on top of it because you’ll just dilute the strength of the retinoid however during the daytime if you notice dryness in imitation you should use a moisturizer with sunscreen at least SPF 30 in the morning and throughout the day as many times as you need

Long-Lasting Acne Solution with Dr. Ife Rodney

Sebacia Acne Treatment with Dr Ife Rodney
Dr. Ife Rodney introduces Sebacia. This groundbreaking acne treatment uses micro-gold particles and laser therapy to reduce oil production and prevent acne flare-ups for up to two years. Combine it with other therapies for comprehensive acne care.

This Sebacia acne treatment is a revolutionary treatment to help reduce acne flares for up to two years or more. In this treatment, this is the serum, and it has microgold particles in it. Those are gently massaged into your skin and to your pores and concentrate in the oil glands. Then we glide a gentle dermatology laser over the surface of the skin, which heats up the gold particles, which then seals the oil glands shut. This results in decreased oiliness of the skin and decreased formation of pimples, Pustules, and acnes. In the studies that have been done, we’ve seen the results last for up to two years or more. The Sebacia acne treatment is created because it can also be combined with other services that we offer at Eternal Dermatology. A lot of our patients like to combine it with the acne treatment solutions or the total acne transformation. This way, we are attacking both the short-term and long term causes of the acne.

ACNE FAQS

What Causes Acne?

Acne is a disorder of the hair follicle and the oil glands. It most commonly occurs on the face, back, chest, neck, and shoulders. Certain triggers, such as diet, stress, hormonal changes, make-up and medications, may worsen acne. Be sure to avoid popping pimples to prevent infection permanent scarring. Look at Eternal Dermatology for an acne specialist that can help your face look better.

Acne is caused when the pores in your skin become clogged by dead skin cells. As a result, there is irritation, redness and oil build up. There are also naturally occurring bacteria on your skin which worsen inflammation and travel deeper, causing cysts.

Why Do I Have Acne?

Although most common among teenagers and young adults, acne can be seen in any age group. During puberty, your body begins producing more hormones that stimulate excess oil production in your skin. This excess oil makes it harder to keep your skin free from clogged pores and bacteria.

Other Causes Of Acne Flares

  • Pregnancy
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)
  • Certain medication
  • Certain cosmetic or hair products applied to the skin
  • Too tight clothing
  • High humidity and sweating
  • Foods with a high glycemic index (fatty, sugary foods)
  • Stress

How Is Acne Diagnosed?

The first step in diagnosing acne is a skin examination. The key skin findings in an acne breakout are blackheads, whiteheads, pustules, and cysts. Based on your skin exam, the location of your breakouts, and the severity and timing of your acne, we can determine the cause and provide treatment options.

How Is Acne Treated?

Acne treatment depends on the severity of your condition. For mild cases, topical (cream or gel) medications that can be applied to the affected areas. In moderate cases, you may need a combination of topical and oral medications.

For severe acne, prescription medications are available and should be taken as directed. Cystic acne may also require injections to reduce inflammation, redness, and pain.

Procedures such as chemical peels, microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, and products like face washes can also be very useful in the successful prevention and treatment of acne. We offer a comprehensive approach to acne treatment that is integrated with diet and lifestyle modifications.

Sebacia Acne Treatment - New!

The new gold standard for acne.

Do you or your teenager suffer from acne? We have something exciting to share with you! Eternal Dermatology +Aesthetics is proud to be one of the first dermatology practices in the U.S. to offer a new, innovative, and FDA-cleared treatment for acne and oily skin. With Sebacia, we have achieved dramatic results that can, literally, transform our patients’ lives.

Sebacia targets the glands that produce acne-causing oil. This treatment has been clinically proven to reduce acne and prevent future breakouts! We use gold micro-particles and a safe dermatology laser — so there’s no need to remember a medication schedule. In only three 30-45 minute sessions over a two week period, you can be on your way to clearer skin.

What Is Sebacia?

Sebacia is an FDA-approved, non-invasive procedure that treats mild to moderate acne from the inside out. Conventional acne therapies deal with bacteria found on the surface of the skin and clogged pores. Sebacia goes right to the root of the problem—the sebaceous glands that regulate oil production. We need the oil to lubricate our skin, but when the glands produce too much oil, acne results. By addressing the source of the acne, Sebacia reduces existing acne and prevents future break-outs for results that last up to two years or longer.

How Does Sebacia Work?

Sebacia uses gold micro-particles and a safe dermatology laser to target sebaceous glands deep in the pores, inhibiting oil production and reducing the number and size of acne lesions.

What Happens During the Sebacia Procedure?

  • First we gently gentle cleanser your skin to remove oil, make-up and other possible irritants.
  • Then the gold serum (containing the micro-particles) is massaged into the skin. The micro-particles are tiny gold coated beads, that travel into the pores to reach the oil deep glands deep.
  • After this, a beam of laser light is glided over the skin. The gold attracts the laser energy so that it reaches the oil glands. The laser heats the glands, shrinking them and breaking down blemishe.
  • The selective heating in Sebacia results in fewer acne lesions and an overall improvement in the quality and radiance of your skin.

How Long Does the Treatment Take?

The treatment can be considered a “lunch time procedure.” Each session takes less than 30 minutes. A complete treatment includes three visits one week apart.

What Is the Recovery Time?

None! You can get back to your everyday activities immediately after the treatment. Your skin may be a little red and that can last from a few hours to a couple days, but it is neither unsightly nor painful.

What Are the Expected Results?

Results vary among individuals, as with any treatment. Many people see a significant improvement in their skin within six weeks. Clinical studies have determined that, on average, there will be 65% improvement in 3 months, 74% in 6 months, and 85% in 12 months.

What Are the Benefits of Sebacia?

  • Sebacia can eliminate the need for both topical and oral medications. Cream medications can cause dryness and irritation of the skin. On the other hand, some oral medications can have severe side effects, and may also lead to antibiotic resistanc.
  • When compared to other light-based acne treatments, Sebacia, by localizing the heating effect, reduces the possibility of thermal damage to surrounding tissues.
  • The Sebacia acne is done completely, and comfortably, within our office. You do not have to “finish up” at home with an additional regimen for the treatment to be effective.

Eternal Dermatology is conveniently located in Fulton and serve Columbia MD, Clarksville, Ellicott City, Laurel, Bowie, Silver Spring and surrounding areas in PG and Howard County, Maryland.

How is Acne Scarring Treated?

Each individual usually has multiple types of acne scarring at any given point. Therefore, no ONE specific treatment will erase all of these scars. Different treatment modalities should be combined for the best results. At Eternal Dermatology, we offer a wide range of treatment options for all of your skincare needs. Our board-certified dermatologists are acne experts who will create a customized plan to restore your Eternal Glow.

Non-Ablative Lasers and LaserGenesis

Lasers can stimulate collagen and resurface the skin. The result is a smoother texture with a brighter, more even complexion.  Like all procedures that treat skin scarring, you will need multiple sessions to see the full benefit.

Microneedling

Microneedling, aka collagen induction therapy uses tiny sterile needles to make micro-punctures in the skin. This is a favorite procedure for people with a  busy lifestyle, as there is almost no downtime.

RF Microneedling

The latest innovation in the treatment of acne scarring is Radiofrequency (RF) Microneedling. It consists of a handpiece with tiny insulated needles that deliver heat energy to remodel collagen at different layers in the skin. The needles go in cool, warm up the collagen, then come out of the skin cool. The remodeled collagen smoothes acne scarring and reduces pore size. The best part is that it is safe in all skin types- Because the needles go into and come out of the skin cool, it is not as likely as other treatments to cause hyperpigmentation or dark spots on the skin.

Subcision and Excision

Subcision is a safe and effective way to treat “rolling”  or “punched out” acne scars. There are bands of tissue that pull the skin to give it a “tacked down” appearance. For larger depressed boxcar scars, excision is a procedure where the whole scar is cut out, and repaired with stitches.

TCA CROSS

The TCA CROSS technique is ideal for deep pitted scars. Trichloroacetic acid is carefully and precisely placed into the deep scar. It stimulates collagen growth to fill in the pitted scar. Dr. Rodney, a top board-certified dermatologist in Columbia, MD is an expert at the TCA CROSS technique. Over 3-4 treatments, large pores and pitted scars can improve by 70-90%.

Photofacials and Chemical Peels

On darker skin types, brown spots or hyperpigmentation from acne may take months to fade on its own. Physician grade chemical peels, combined with topical prescription medications can speed up this process. Some chemical peels also stimulate collagen formation deeper in the skin to help improve texture.  In lighter skin types, redness from acne can be treated with IPL Photofacials.

Dermal Fillers

When combined with subcision, dermal fillers can treat rolling and depressed acne scars with great results. The fillers help to stretch out and flatten the scars. Although results are seen immediately, they continue to improve over the next 4-6 weeks. To see best results, most people require 2-3 treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.  Dr. Rodney is an expert injector in the use of dermal fillers for acne scarring.

Say Goodbye to Acne: Achieve Clearer Skin with Sebacia Acne Treatment at Eternal Dermatology

Say Goodbye to Acne: Achieve Clearer Skin with Sebacia Acne Treatment at Eternal Dermatology
The Sebacia Acne Treatment provides long-lasting improvement in your acne without the need for oral medications or applying topical or cream medications daily.

Understanding Sebacia Acne Treatment

The Sebacia Acne Treatment provides long-lasting improvement in your acne without the need for oral medications or applying topical or cream medications daily.
The way the Sebacia treatment works is that we first massage a microgold serum into your skin.
This serum has microscopic gold particles that enter through your pores and then concentrate in the oil glands in your skin. Then, we glide a gentle dermatology laser over the surface of your skin, and this heats the gold particles within your oil glands, which causes the oil glands to shrink.
The reduction in oil production from your sebaceous or oil glands leads to reduced pimples, pustules, and inflammation in your skin.
For the Sebacia treatment, we recommend a series of three treatments spaced a month apart.
Before your first treatment, we may opt to do a chemical peel and other skin treatments to prepare your pores to receive the gold particles.
In the six months following your Sebacia treatment, you will see a gradual and continuous improvement in your acne.
If you’re looking for a noninvasive, safe treatment option for your acne, and you’ve already tried or considered oral medications, creams, and pills like Accutane then the Sebacia treatment could be right for you.
Eternal Dermatology & Aesthetic Center is here to help you achieve the radiant, age-defying results you desire with Sebacia Acne Treatment.
