Eternal Dermatology & Aesthetic Center has options to restore and sustain healthy, beautiful skin. In addition to investing in all sorts of technologies and products, our board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Ife Rodney, also has considerable and innovative training. So, she can offer many applications for common procedures not available at other practices or offices in the Columbia, Maryland, or Washington, DC area. Notably, Dr. Rodney uses Botox® to treat everything from excessive sweating to enlarged jaw muscles (caused by teeth grinding). However, the fact remains that Botox® continues to lead to all other nonsurgical aesthetic procedures as a treatment for wrinkles.
There are numerous reasons for its popularity. For starters, it is among those products that are changing how we look at treatments to address signs of aging. In the past, individuals may have been limited to more aggressive procedures or surgical treatments to look younger. Now, you can smooth your crow’s feet, frown, and forehead lines without downtime, minimal side effects, little preparation and aftercare, and a quick and well-tolerated procedure. There is no cutting or sutures, which makes it a minimally invasive alternative.
You are probably referring to the “frozen” effect. Botox® should never make you look “different.” You should look like yourself, just a healthier and more vibrant version of yourself. The problem is not the product or treatment but the injection technique. When too much Botox® is applied or when it is injected incorrectly, treatment can result in the muscles becoming overly relaxed. Or the muscles outside of the treatment area may be affected. You don’t have to worry about this complication at our office. We are experienced with Botox® as well as with a range of other injectable treatments. We map out exactly where to inject Botox®, and our injections are applied precisely and with the right dosage or “units.” This expertise and experience provide peace of mind that you can still move your face naturally afterward and will not encounter severe side effects and complications.
There is no specific age range that is ideal for using Botox®. That is a personal decision based on factors such as aging skin. That said, fine lines and wrinkles may become more apparent for many in their 30s and 40s. One of the beautiful things about Botox® is that it can also be used as a “prejuvenation” treatment. It can help younger patients keep their smooth skin and contours. By relaxing the muscles responsible for expression lines, the wrinkle can never “set in.” As time marches on, we also lose fat, collagen, and other building blocks of our skin. So, it may be necessary to complement Botox® with other procedures that address changes like volume loss. In this case, another type of injectable treatment (known as dermal filler or soft tissue filler) may be appropriate.

Botox for Gummy Smile
Yes. Think of Botox® as retraining your muscles. As your body gets used to the treatment, you may notice that you can wait longer between “touch-ups” before the results fade and you need more injections. This “retraining” is due to factors like muscle memory, a gradual weakening of the targeted muscles, and your body’s general ability to adapt to treatment over time.
Eternal Dermatology & Aesthetic Center offers many treatments, including Dysport®, Jeuveau®, and Xeomin®. While no single treatment is better than the rest for everyone, some of these products may be better for you specifically. They all work similarly, but there are nuances in how they are processed and in other elements like “onset of action” (how quickly they work) and duration, or how long they last.
