We like to say that first impressions are eternal. If spots, big pores, wrinkles, and other signs of aging and sun damage are holding you back from making that desirable lasting impression, Eternal Dermatology + Aesthetics is here to help! The Laser Genesis system is designed as a low-risk, high-reward skin resurfacing treatment that gets results without recovery, downtime, or anesthesia. Laser Genesis is so predictable and safe that it may be appropriate for individuals with sensitive or finicky skin or those with darker complexions who may not have been good candidates for earlier-generation lasers.
We welcome our diverse Columbia, Maryland, area patient base to have a quick glimpse at the Laser Genesis process in the following five key steps to better, more beautiful skin.
No treatment at our center would be complete without a consultation. During your initial visit, Board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Ife J. Rodney will evaluate your skin and discuss your specific concerns and goals. Since Laser Genesis is such a gentle treatment, it is appropriate for skin of all types and tones. However, lasers must be avoided if you are pregnant or nursing. Also, it is important to hold off on treatment until after any irritated areas or wounds have healed and active infections have cleared. Laser Genesis effectively improves the appearance of everything from lines, wrinkles, and creases to discoloration – such as the redness of rosacea, brown or gray patches (melasma), and pimples.
No step in the process will come as a surprise to you because we will review all aspects of the procedure prior to your actual treatment sessions. By following any instructions for pre-treatment and post-treatment care, you avoid the risk of side effects and complications like dark spots or hyperpigmentation. You also encourage healing and support fast, natural, and desirable results. Your skin should also be dry, clean, and makeup-free for your treatment.
Laser treatments require protective eyewear. Once those have been applied, Dr. Rodney will gently glide the laser over your skin. Most patients describe the sensation as a very subtle feeling of warmth and a tingly feeling. Due to the modest nature of these sensations, numbing anesthetic or topicals are not necessary. A hydrating serum or moisturizer may be applied after your treatment is completed. Then, you can get right back to the rest of your day with no downtime and little more than mild redness and swelling at the treatment site for a few hours afterward.
Since there is no burning or peeling like those associated with more invasive resurfacing techniques, you can wear makeup right away. We may also advise on ways to expedite healing, including the liberal use of a gentle moisturizer and avoidance of the sun and heat (such as saunas and steam rooms). Any tenderness or irritation should have completely subsided by the third day.
Laser Genesis is not a “one-and-done” treatment. A series of treatment sessions is required to get results. But generally, the trade-off is that you avoid the risk of complications, undesirable side effects, and the need for recovery and downtime of aggressive therapies. We may recommend a series of six sessions depending on your needs and how your skin responds to treatment. Laser Genesis works by bypassing the top layers of the skin to penetrate deeply and heat tissues. As collagen is stimulated deep within the skin, you gradually notice less visible pores, tightening, a renewed glow, and more.
Eternal Dermatology + Aesthetics also partners with patients across the Columbia, MD area to sustain results that may last 6 to 12 months or more. As appropriate, we may get you on a schedule of monthly “maintenance” sessions. Everyone benefits from this tailored skincare regimen.
