A full head of thick, glossy hair is an eternally attractive feature. And, if your hair has thinned, Eternal Dermatology + Aesthetics offers a timely solution to restore this timelessly appealing characteristic: PRP treatment. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Ife Rodney and our team in Fulton share how we restore hair and, in turn, self-confidence among patients from across greater Columbia, Maryland.
No treatment or service would be complete without a consultation. To effectively treat, we must understand the nature and extent of your concerns. We can then discuss how PRP treatment may work and does wonders for individuals who are going bald. It is also an opportunity to discuss your goals and ask Dr. Rodney any questions you may have about treatment that are specific and relevant to your situation. You must be aware of all options for intervention/treatment. So, you can then decide what is in your well-being’s best interests over the long term.
On the day of your procedure, we will need to derive the Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) that powers your treatment process and results. This step involves taking a very small sample of your blood. The blood is then spun rapidly in a machine called a centrifuge. Such spinning separates and enriches the plasma with platelets. Platelets are rich in growth factors, which trigger healing and regeneration.
The PRP is injected precisely into bald or thinning areas of the scalp, and most patients tolerate this process very well. Generally, the injections are associated with fleeting sensitivity. But, if you are worried about discomfort, Dr. Rodney will discuss anesthetic options to ensure the most comfortable and pleasant experience.
PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) for Hair Loss
PRP’s concentration of blood platelets is up to five times higher than “regular blood.” This concentrated plasma triggers the dermal papilla cells deep within the scalp. These cells are crucial to hair regrowth. Initially, you may notice mild swelling and bruising at the injection sites. But there is nothing to recover from, which makes PRP therapy a quick (30-minute) and no-downtime procedure.
Initially, it’s recommended to have four monthly treatments to boost blood supply to the follicles, reduce hair loss, stimulate hair growth, and improve shaft thickness.
After the initial treatment series, you will maintain repeat sessions. Usually, all it takes to increase and preserve dense hair is one or two treatments a year.
